The girls made their first purchase with their own money today. For those of you who haven't been aquainted with Webkinz, they are little stuffed animals that come with a code. This code allows them to get on a website where they can decorate a virtual room for their Webkinz, play games and visit with their Webkinz friends. Think high tech Beany Babies.
The girls are crazy for them (and drive me crazy wanting to play on Webkinz World on the computer). That is what they want for birthday's, Easter, whatever. Last week when they asked me to buy them another one, I said no, they'd have to wait until it was their birthday or something special for me to get another one. Erika thought for a minute and then asked "Mommy, can we use our own money?"
"Why not?" I thought and said sure. They immediately poured out their piggy bank and counted money. Actually, they sorted into piles and I counted. Between the tooth fairy and loose change they'd racked up about $15 each.
The next weekend we were off looking for Webkinz. This is not as easy as it sounds because they sell out in about 2 days when new stock comes in. At the second store, were were able to find some. I was very proud of them because they wanted to spend $10 on a Webkinz and even though there were ones there that they liked that cost a few dollars more, they stuck to their $10 limit. Erika found a little Golden Retriever she named Erika. Sasha found a little poodle she called Princess Snow White.
They each took their own purchases to the counter and had them rung up. Two new consumers are born...
